Sir David King
Scientist
He is the Director of the Smith School of Enterprise and Environment at the University of Oxford. As Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government, he created an in-depth horizon scanning process which advised government on a wide range of long-term issues, from flooding to obesity through the Foresight Program. He raised public awareness for climate change and highlight the need for government action. He initiated a £1 billion Energy Technology Institute, and co-authored “The Hot Topic”.
Author of several books and papers on chemical physics, science and policy, he was Knighted in 2003 and has also received the Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur, in 1999. He continues as Director of Research in the Department of Chemistry at Cambridge University.
